WORKING WITH wdr partner, dabane trust water workshops, zimbabwe
“I have been the Secretary of the Water Point committee in my community since 2010. Our community worked with Dabane to install a water system.
We’ve realised that if we don’t maintain this water system then we have to go back to the old way, and we can’t do it. We maintain it.
Before, we used scoop wells- they were dirty and there was worms in the water. The holes were big and our animals fell in sometimes they broke their legs or maybe they died. Dogs and donkeys used the water too so our livestock shared their bacteria and got infected. Dabane helped us identify potential areas for pumps.
We each pay 50 cents per household each month. We use this to do repairs when they happen. There is a lot of use around April and November so we have repaired parts in these months. People say they have no money, but they always pay in the end.”
